Olav Carlsen, CFO and VP of Business Development
Olav Carlsen has been with Tiaxa since 2009, as CFO and leading key business development initiatives. Prior to Tiaxa, he served as CFO of various Silicon Valley technology companies, including PortalPlayer Inc. (PLAY on NASDAQ) and Transmeta Corporation (TMTA on NASDAQ), leading IPO, M&A and financing activities. Olav is a US CPA and holds an MBA Degree from LMU, University of Munich, Germany. He has lived and worked in Germany, the UK, Panama, Bolivia and California.
Sergio Gutierrez, Director
Sergio Gutierrez is co-founder and General Manager of EPG Partners. Previously he founded IG Capital, a private equity fund focused on Chilean SME´s. Between 2002 and 2008 he worked in investment banking at Deutsche Bank and IM Trust, were he participated and led numerous M&A and capital market transactions. In his early years, he worked in the M&A team at Enersis, particularly in Brazil. Sergio is a civil engineer from Universidad Católica de Chile and has an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Miguel Herrera, Director
Miguel Herrera is a Senior Investment Officer with Accion’s Frontier Investments Group, where he is responsible for Latin America. Prior to joining Frontier, he spent six years investing in microfinance institutions (MFIs) at Accion Investments in Microfinance SPC, where he served on the board of such leading MFIs as Mibanco, Banco Solidario and BancoSol. Prior to joining Accion, Miguel spent 10 years in capital markets at Citibank and the Royal Bank of Canada in New York and Chicago. A native of Peru, Miguel holds degrees in economics and business administration, and resides in Boston.
Cristián Shea, Director
Cristian is the founder of Equitas Capital. Previously he founded LatinValley, a venture capital fund investing in South America, today also managed by Equitas. Throughout his career, he has advised several multinational companies such as Ericsson, Saab, Lockheed Martin and other groups in their venture capital activities in emerging markets. Cristian graduated from Yale Law School in 1998 (LLM), was admitted to practice law in New York in 2000, and graduated from Universidad Diego Portales Law School in Chile in 1993.
Felipe Valdés, Co-Founder and CEO
Felipe co-founded Tiaxa in the year 2000 and has been CEO since 2003. Prior to Tiaxa, he worked leading sales and biz dev teams in the e-commerce, internet and high-performance computing fields for Latin American tech startups Starmedia Networks and Silicon Chile, where he participated in creating the region’s first cobranded internet credit card, and LatAm’s first supercomputing, telemedicine and distance education projects. Before that he was part of the M&A team at Chilean energy holding Enersis during its international expansion. Felipe has a Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Degree from Princeton University.
Ann Williams, Director
Ann Williams is a Venture Partner at Redpoint e.ventures, a Brazilian venture capital fund focused on early stage investments in the consumer and enterprise Internet sector. From 2003 to 2010 she was shareholder and CEO of OKTO, a Tiaxa spin-off. Ann led OKTO, a mobile data management, rating and delivery gateway, from start-up through its acquisition by Spring Wireless. From 2000 to 2003, she was country manager of Tiaxa Brazil and previously worked as a consultant with Diamond Cluster, Braxton Associates and USAID, as well as directed programs for AmeriCorps. She is a graduate of Stanford University and has an MBA and MPA from the University of Texas at Austin.
